A Manhattan internist who lives in Jersey City was awarded $7.2 million by a unanimous jury ruling in her favor against the Port Authority. The woman fell and broke her elbow on a ramp at a PATH station.
The jury found that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was 75 percent liable and the company that manages the station, Modern Facilities Services of East Hanover, was 25 percent liable. When asked for a statement, a Port Authority spokesman said that the organization did not wish to comment on whether or not they would appeal the verdict.
The decision was made after the woman’s lawyer was able to convince the jury that the elbow injury prevented the doctor from practicing as a gynecologist and forced her to send patients away. He said that the injury, which the doctor suffered after slipping on a rubber mat and falling on her right arm, took an immediate six hour surgery to stabilize her fractures with screws and wiring.

The State of New Jersey is set to strengthen its seat belt laws, as legislation requiring all vehicle occupants to wear seat belts is on its way to the governor’s desk. If you or someone you love has been injured in a car accident, the Edison personal injury lawyers of Levinson Axelrod may be able to help you get the financial compensation you deserve.
Under the current law, adults are allowed to go without seat belts if they’re sitting in rear seats. The new law will require everyone in a vehicle to be wearing a seat belt. However, critics are unhappy that the law is a secondary offense, meaning that officers will need another reason to pull over vehicles containing passengers who aren’t buckled up.
Seat belts are an important element in car safety. If you or someone you love has been injured in an auto accident, contact the Edison car accident lawyers of Levinson Axelrod today by calling 800-346-5529.
