Elevated levels of arsenic found in organic food products

High levels of arsenic have been discovered in several organic food products by researchers at Dartmouth University.
These elevated levels are caused by a main ingredient, organic brown rice syrup. The research shows that the food products, including baby food, energy shots, and cereal bars, that had organic brown rice syrup listed as one of the top ingredients had large amounts of arsenic inside them.
The researchers determined that this type of arsenic was inorganic, which can increase an individual’s chances for developing several types of cancer, as well as heart disease. It is suggested that these products be consumed in moderation, and that the baby food products be avoided, because young infants are not able to process the compound the same as adults, and these elevated levels could be severely harmful to them.
