Italian officials have announced that there are still 21 people missing from the Costa Concordia. The cruise liner struck several large, protruding rocks last Friday and began to shift into the water. Out of the 4,200 people aboard, including passengers and crew members, almost all have been accounted for besides the 21 who are currently missing and the 11 that passed away in the wreck.
The captain of the cruise ship was arrested and is facing several charges, including manslaughter and abandoning ship. He is being held responsible for making an unauthorized movement of the ship, directly resulting in the crash into the reef near the Giglio, Italy coastline.
The drastic weather in the area has caused serious complications for the rescue dive team to perform diving missions. The ship has shifted a considerable amount and could move even more in the coming days, depending on the weather.
The Newark personal injury lawyers of Levinson Axelrod, P.A. are keeping the victims’ families and friends in their thoughts and prayers during this tragic and difficult time.
